Joe Correia, P. Eng.

Joe Correia has a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and is a Licensed Professional Engineer, as well as a Designated Consulting Engineer. He has over 30 years of forensic experience during which he has independently investigated and analysed more than 2000 serious motor vehicle accidents across all ten provinces and several states.

Mr. Correia’s work focuses on analysing complex personal injury and product liability cases. His work has involved: analysing dashcam and security videos of accidents; downloading, testing and interpreting data from event data recorders; nighttime visibility studies and assessment of driver perception-response times; analysis of vehicle and occupant dynamics; photogrammetric analyses; roadway friction testing in dry, wet and winter conditions. He has also been involved with field and laboratory testing of different vehicle components and systems, including: accelerator, throttle and brake systems; seat and seatbelt assemblies; steering and suspension components; vehicle roof crush; trailer hitches and couplers.

Mr. Correia has appeared as an expert witness for both plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation, both prosecution and defence in criminal trials, as well as the Deputy Judge Advocate in a military tribunal. He has been qualified as an expert at various levels of court in Ontario, Alberta, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. He has also appeared as an expert witness at coroner’s inquests and alternative dispute proceedings.

In his spare time, Joe enjoys golfing, hiking, cycling, downhill skiing, playing basketball and photography.
