Occasionally, a deficiency in construction, signage or maintenance of a roadway may play a contributing role in the cause of a motor vehicle accident.
During our site investigations, we assess whether sightlines at an intersection, curve or vertical crest, horizontal alignment of the road, or improper or lack of signage may have played a role in the cause of an accident. Other roadway factors may include winter maintenance operations and temporary work zone conditions.
We can investigate and assess roadway factors with the following:
- Survey of horizontal and vertical alignment
- Determination of safe speeds in curves and ramps
- Analysis of approach and departure sight triangles at intersections
- Assessment of traffic control devices (signs, etc.)
- Assessment of roadside hazards and clear zones
- Review of winter maintenance operations
- Assessment of pavement & edge conditions
- Testing of available roadway friction
- Roadway lighting studies
